Beginners class:

This class is for complete beginners.

Level 1 class:

This class is for students who have done the “beginners class” and wish to carry on with the Breakthrough French 1 course. If you have studied French at school, you will easily cope with this class. By the end of the year, you will get by in French in most situations and will be able to talk about yourself in greater detail. The first 6 weeks are spent revising last year’s programme. Topics covered in this year's classes are:
  • 6 weeks revision (See beginners class)
  • Making travel arrangements
  • Food and drinks
  • Likes and dislikes
  • Where you live and what the weather is like
  • More about yourself  
  • Talking about the future
  • Talking where you have been

Level 2 class

This class is for students who have done the Level 1 class. If you have an equivalent GCSE level grade C, you will easily cope with this level. The first 6 weeks are spent revising last year’s programme. The new Breakthrough French 2 book will be revising grammar points which have been covered in the second year. By now, students will be able to talk about themselves and their daily activities. Topics covered this year are: 
  • Travelling abroad
  • Car, accidents and problems
  • Description of travels 
  • Skiing accidents 
  • Thank you letters and emails 
  • Reminiscing how life was
  • Museums and places of interest to visit, understand guide explanations
  • Telling a joke in French
  • Hobbies 
  • Shopping for presents

Level 3 class

This class is for students who have done the Level 2 class. If you have an equivalent GCSE level grade A or B, you will easily cope with this level. We will start reading stories from Easy readers. The first 6 weeks will be revising last year’s programme. We will be covering more tenses and revision. Students will be conversing with more ease. We will be working from simple texts and study "Meurtre dans un jardin francais" (Francais facile)
conversation class

Conversation class:

In this class, you will no longer use a book and be working from texts concerning French culture. This year, we will be covering all aspects of Burgundy , history, geography, food, places to visit and much more.  This level would suit someone with O’ Level, AS level or a good level of French. You will be expected to keep up to date with news and current affairs. More topics will also be covered. The class is conducted in French. We will still cover more challenging grammar points, interpret conversations, and increase vocabulary. We are studying Pagnol plays and Maigret books. You would be expected to read about 10 pages a weeks. We have the opportunity to watch French films and I am organising regular French quiz nights.

Discussion class:

In this class, we will be working from texts concerning French culture. This year, we will be covering all aspects of Burgundy, history, geography, food, places to visit and much more. This level would suit someone with A’ level or a degree or for retired French teachers who don’t want to lose their French. You will be expected to keep up to date with news and current affairs. More topics will also be covered. The class is conducted in French. We will still cover more challenging grammar points, interpret conversations, and increase vocabulary. This class is for Fluent or near fluent French speakers. We will be studying a Bernard Minier book and will be expected to read 20 pages a week to discuss. We have the opportunity to watch French films and I am organising regular French quiz nights.
