Whether you are a complete novice or want to brush-up your school French, I can help. By focusing on the four skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking - I can help you progress in a prompt and balanced way. As a French national, I can help you with your pronunciation - as well as offer top travel and culture tips!

Adult French classes tailored to suit you

I have now been teaching for 35 years in various schools and have taught up to A level and degree level. I have worked for 21 years in the local adult education college. I am a member of the Institute of Linguists and am a qualified interpreter. I now have 10 adult classes online which cover the 4 skills - reading, speaking, listening and writing. I have access to the latest French news via French satellite and to many French films which I show at the end of the year to higher groups.

French quiz nights

Three times a year, I organise a French quiz online with each class. Beginners up to Level 2 will have a quiz in English concerning French culture.

More advanced classes will be in French about France. Students will be in teams in different rooms. Those are always very popular with students.

Individual French tuition

Learn French in a fun environment

Beginners’ classes are fun and relaxed. We use a book called Breakthrough French 1. This book will be used for the next two years of the course. Each course is 30 weeks long. The books come with a CD which encourages the student to revise and do some work at home.

The class is structured with various activities and goes at your own speed. Should a student find the course too easy, there is always another class to move to as I cover all levels at French with Nicole Harris. We do have some time for revision after the summer holidays and throughout the course. Being French, I am able to teach you the culture of the country and the etiquette, if you visit France.

Beginners and advanced classes

Beginners to level 4

Breakthrough books 1-2 up to level 2
Easy texts used for level 3 and level 4 "Easy readers" books
We will focus on listening, reading, writing and speaking
Homework will be set for the following week
Small classes - plenty of opportunities to speak French
As you are progressing, less English will be used

Conversation and discussion classes

Conversation and discussion classes are higher classes. They both follow the same pattern: with French texts and questions are sent to you in advance to prepare. We read and discuss books such as Bussi, Musso, Minier and this year Jerome Loubry, we discuss politics and French news, study harder grammar points, do some interpreting, and some vocabulary study.

Comfortable venue. Class size is not too big and so students feel able to contribute. Creative tasks working in twos or threes. Good feedback. We get the chance to listen to spoken french and last lesson watched an enjoyable French film. Would recommend the class to others.

When my circumstances changed and I needed to be able to speak reasonable French on a regular basis, it seemed a very long time since I had studied French at school! I joined one of Nicole's classes and discovered it was an excellent way to learn the language. Nicole is a great teacher and very patient with us as we try to speak her language. She brings the language to life as she tells us so much about her country and the people during the class. I would recommend Nicole's classes for anyone wishing to improve their French and at the same time, learn more about the country. As a bonus, it is a wonderful way to make new friends.
